Maybrick Road, Bath – Design, Build, Manage.

The scope:

To create a striking new home from scratch. Having been in the hands of the previous owners for over 60 years with little expenditure during this period, Maybrick Road suffered with damp, rotten floors, old electrics and no central heating, and was in need of a full refurbishment.

The new owners wanted to create a stunning family home to complement their lifestyle and maximise the existing space. This meant combining their love of socialising, fun and entertainment along with cosy nights in and a comfortable space to unwind.

The result:

We remodelled the ground floor by opening up the dining room to adjoin with the kitchen, to create one large space. We then swapped these rooms around; with French doors cut into the rear, the new dining room now leads out onto the west facing rear garden, making the most of the evening sun.

Longer windows and new doors were also created to flood light through. On the first floor, alongside a beautiful renovation of the bathroom, we relocated the entrance to the second bedroom and removed the chimney breast from top to bottom. Both modifications made significant improvements to the space. This twist on a Victorian renovation was delivered well within the timeline typically associated with this type of refurbishment and, importantly, within the specified budget.

The numbers:

  • Build cost = £45,000

  • Timeline = 3.5 months

We were delighted to see this home featured by both Mandarin Stone and Houzz for its design features. – Will Long, Director
